Susanna Centlivre (1669-1723)

Susanna – first popular female comedic playwright of the 18th century.  A time when women were ‘an unsettling novelty’.  She was the wife of a royal cook. She wrote at least 16 plays, poetry and humorous letters.  She was politically  minded and a ‘card carrying Whig’.  She was about 54 years old when she died.  (
