Fort Rosecrans Cemetery was established as a National Monument in 1934, but many of the graves pre-date California before it was a state, in 1850.

Christmas Eve at Rosecrans National Cemetery. The graves are dramatically set on the hill of Cobrillo peninsula. At this angle can be seen the skyline of San Diego. A lone man walks away, after paying his respects at a family grave.
